An alternate vision for the future of Minnesota Opera: Prioritize opera programming. Support the artists. Provide maximum access to opera to the community.
An update from the Musicians of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra
This month the community was asked to "make a gift to Minnesota Opera and join us in our efforts to create an open, inclusive, and accessible opera company.”
According to the numbers, Minnesota Opera management is actually using donor money to make opera less open, more exclusive and less accessible.
This season MN Opera leadership has chosen to shrink programming and cut its orchestra. We have been assured by management that these cuts are not the result of financial issues, but rather because "...the Opera is not interested in an agreement that requires it to use the orchestra in the same manner as it did prior to the COVID pandemic."
The opera is choosing higher prices and smaller audiences, rather than lower prices and larger audiences.
We need you to let opera leadership know that cutting programming and cutting the orchestra is bad for the community! 612-342-9583 | rtaylor@mnopera.org
